Business Development & Fundraising
We offer a comprehensive range of fundraising services, including coaching, group training, and direct assistance with proposal writing and building funder relations.
Our fundraising experts bring extensive experience in securing funding for initiatives related to the green transition, youth employment, private sector development, freedom of expression, independent media, and arts and culture.
Additionally, our services include facilitating the development of your theory of change, accessing alternative financing options such as impact investments, programme design, and consortium building.
We raised over €60 million for our clients from donors such as the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union, UNDP, Sida, the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM), the Dutch Creative Industries Fund, and the Google News Initiative.
Organisational Learning & Facilitation
Since 2013, we have been working with philanthropic organisations, investors, impact-driven organisations, and businesses through our organisational learning services.
Our services include organising and facilitating virtual and in-person activities such as communities of practice, funder gatherings, peer-learning journeys, and retreats. We specialise in international development, green entrepreneurship, and nonprofit organisations, with a strong focus on fostering international collaboration.
Our role spans developing learning agendas, facilitation and art of hosting, knowledge harvesting, and publishing engaging knowledge products. More specifically, we have hosted webinars with simultaneous translation into Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, and Bahasa, and set up learning retreats in locations such as Tunis, Marrakesh, Tbilisi, Brussels, and the Sinai Desert.
Strategy Consulting
We support non-profit organisations, businesses, and funders in developing effective strategies. Our expertise includes strategic foresight, income strategies, team coaching, and strategic guidance for organisations navigating the green and digital transitions.
Currently, we are developing an e-learning curriculum for green SMEs, featuring multiple online training modules focused on green business development, impact measurement, and green certification. Additionally, we have supported organisations with their Strategic Compass and provided training in areas such as intercultural communication, gender, diversity, and inclusion. As part of our strategy consulting services, we frequently organise in-person workshops and facilitate strategic sessions to ensure practical outcomes that drive long-term impact.
Event Hosting & Curation
We have extensive experience in event management and curation of high-level events, including investor summits, future-oriented forums, and matchmaking meetings for funders and policymakers. Our specialty lies in engaging stakeholders involved in the green transition across the Middle East, Africa, and Eurasia.
Our events have ranged in scale and format, from multi-day events hosting 400 participants with panels, workshops, and site visits, to smaller, private gatherings, art exhibitions, performances, and exclusive deal rooms that connect investors, entrepreneurs and diplomats. We have also facilitated trade missions to promote cross-border collaborations between Europe and the Middle East and Africa. We have organised gatherings in countries such as Tunisia, Egypt, the Netherlands, Morocco, Kenya, Lebanon, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Uganda, China, the United Arab Emirates, Russia and Georgia.
Our responsibilities encompass a wide array of tasks, including event logistics such as visa coordination, speaker curation, programme design, social media and website promotion, and securing sponsorships to ensure sustainability.
Impact Assessment and Evaluations
New Silk Roads offers a comprehensive suite of well-established Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) services, complemented by innovative approaches to impact assessment.
Our M&E team has provided tailored MEL support to funders, INGOs, and business support organisations, with a thematic focus on youth employment, entrepreneurship development, media and freedom of expression, arts and culture, and the green transition, particularly in the MENA region.
We have also conducted external mid-term and end-term evaluations of programmes, employing thorough desk reviews, key informant interviews, outcome harvesting, and surveys to deliver insightful assessments.
Additionally, we provide training to organisations to develop and implement their own MEL frameworks, and we support data collection efforts, particularly in areas such as job creation and employment impact.
Research & Publications
Our team has extensive experience conducting feasibility studies, market assessment publications, and funder and policy recommendations, particularly in the areas of financial innovation, arts and culture, the green transition, and emerging technologies.
Our researchers have developed a range of knowledge products, including a study on Just and Sustainable Technologies in Tropical Forest Countries, a study on Digital Jobs and Women in the MENA Region, and a deep dive into Innovative Finance for Energy Access in Africa. We also completed an extensive feasibility study on the potential of impact investment for the cultural and creative sectors in Europe.
To develop these studies, we analysed grant portfolios, engaged academics and topical experts in climate justice, digital rights, and arts and culture. One of our 3-year research trajectories at the intersection of technology, geopolitics, arts, and climate justice culminated in the publication of Vertical Atlas.
